The meaning of this root is \u201cthin,\u201d and so some imagine that it means YHWH has \u201cshriveled\u201d the gods of the nations, but that sounds odd, and nowhere else does this verbal stem occur as a transitive verb with a direct object. It is more plausible to emend it to <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">radah<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>d<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">z<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> being phonetically close and interchangeable between Hebrew and Aramaic).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From: Robert Alter, <em>The Hebrew Bible<\/em>, vol. 2: Prophets, W.
