  1. The pious are gone<\/em>. The prophecy describes a society that has lost its moral compass: \u201cThe pious are vanished from the land, None upright are left among men\u201d (verse 2). Throughout the book, Micah has pointed the finger and accused the rich and the powerful. Now he paints a picture of an entire society that is rotten and crumbling.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Who\u2019s in the family<\/em>? Father and son. Mother and daughter, daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. When times are good – there is mutual respect among them. When respect and authority are lost, the security and well-being in the familial unit are lost as well, and so \u201cA man\u2019s own household Are his enemies\u201d (verse 6).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. In the eyes of the beholder<\/em>. Verses 9-10 deal with what the believers see and what the enemies see (the root \u05e8-\u05d0-\u05d4 appears 3 times, translated as \u201cenjoy\u201d \u201csee\u201d and \u201cbehold\u201d). But note that in verse 8, even before there\u2019s anything to see, there is perspective: \u201cThough I sit in darkness, the LORD is my light.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. The height of humiliation<\/em>. Verse 17 chooses to describe the humiliation of the other nations via an image of a cursed animal from way back when (Gen. 3) \u201clet them lick dust like snakes.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Mercy, grace and truth<\/em>. The consolation prayer in the last verses of the book of Micah reference the divine attributes in the revelation to Moses 455 chapters ago (in Ex 34). The prayer emphasizes the attributes associated with mercy: \u201cGod, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in kindness and faithfulness, extending kindness to the thousandth generation, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin…\u201d (verses 6-7).<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Chazak<\/em>!
