  1. Plagiarism<\/em>. Verses 1-3 and Isaiah 2:1-4 are almost exactly the same text about the House of God in Jerusalem, and world peace at the end of days. Which is the original – Isaiah? Micah? Or perhaps a third source? Who is responding to whom and do the differences indicate a principled argument between the two? Worth looking into (see also Robert Alter\u2019s comments on this page).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Between Israel and the nations<\/em>. In the vision expressed in verses 1-3, Israel and the other nations (will) have a shared belief in God. In distinction to this vision, both Micah and Isaiah look inwards, and see a present that is very far from the ideal. Micah observes that the people are in an entirely different place: \u201cAll the peoples walk Each in the names of its gods,\u201d (verse 5), and Isaiah is troubled by the fact that Israel too is not there yet: \u201cFor you have forsaken [the ways of] your people, O House of Jacob! For they are full [of practices] from the East, And of soothsaying like the Philistines; They abound in customs of the aliens\u201d (Is. 2:6).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Is there or isn\u2019t there a reason to worry?<\/em> Verse 9 consoles Jerusalem: \u201cNow why do you utter such cries? Is there no king in you, Have your advisors perished, That you have been seized by writhing Like a woman in travail?\u201d In contrast, verse 10 says there is actually a very good reason to worry, and even cry out: \u201cWrithe and scream, Fair Zion, Like a woman in travail!\u201d Are these two verses speaking about two different time periods? Or is it perhaps that verse 10 is the response of the prophet to the words of his antagonists, which are quoted in verse 9?<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Babylonia<\/em>. What is Babylonia doing in verse 10, since we know that the Assyrians ruled during this period?
