The prophet seeks to chastise the rulers for their oppressive actions against the poor. The rulers do not just rob the people of the clothes off their backs. They actually rob them of their backs, their skin and flesh and bone and then cook them in cauldrons (verses 1-4).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This image is important both for the people at the time, and also for the future. For those listening to the prophets&#8217; words, these images are meant to evoke the Assyrian horrors. Noted for their brutal regime, the Assyrians would celebrate their practice of flaying the skins of captured enemies. Micah is equating the corrupt rulers to the evil empire threatening the land of Israel. But the image also has a tragic foreshadowing for the future. In Lamentations 2:20 the prophet Jeremiah describes the horrific state of Jerusalem during the Babylonian siege: \u201cAlas, women eat their own fruit, Their new-born babes!\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The failure of the people to change their ways will ultimately lead Micah&#8217;s horrible image to become
