Our chapter consists primarily of Micah\u2019s prophecy of doom on the Israelites who practice injustices but concludes with God\u2019s promise of eventual redemption: \u201cI will assemble Jacob, all of you. I will bring together the remnant of Israel\u2026Their king marches before them. The Lord at their head\u201d (Micah 2:12-13).<\/span><\/p>\n

This eschatological verse provides the imaginative incentive for a dramatic description of the End of Days preserved in Midrash Tana\u2019 debe-Eliyahu Zuta\u2019 (21:3). The Holy One, blessed be He, will bring the idols of the Nations and put breath and spirit in them. And He will say: Let each and every Nation, together with its carved idol, pass across the bridge over Gehenna! Then the Nations shall begin passing across the bridge. But when they reach the middle, the bridge will become before them like a mere thread and they will plunge into Gehenna — they together with their idols.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When Israel sees this, they will become afraid. They will turn to God and ask: Master of the Universe, will you do the same to us?! God will reply: Who are you?\u00a0 Israel will answer: We are Your people and Your inheritance. But, God will demand of them: Who might bear witness for you? Israel will reply: Abraham! When summoned, Abraham will testify: Indeed they are Your people and You are their God. Similarly, Isaac and Jacob when summoned will bear witness that Israel are God\u2019s chosen people. They are the ones who declare twice every day: \u201cHear, O Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is One\u201d (Deuteronomy 6:4)!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Immediately, the Holy One, blessed be He, will pass before them, crossing the bridge over Gehenna, with Israel following behind Him, as it says: \u201cTheir king marches before them. The Lord at their head\u201d (Micah 2:12-13). At that moment, God will bring the Torah, and holding it in His bosom, He will make the radiance of Israel shine from one end of the world to the
