  1. A matter of time<\/em>. Micah prophesied in the second half of the 8th C. BCE. in this chapter we can hear the history in the background: the destruction of Samaria in the year 720 BCE and the Sennecharib\u2019s campaign to Judah in the year 701. It was an Assyrian campaign to conquer the region, and led to the destruction of a number of Judan cities, and reached Jerusalem – but that city was saved.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Which Micah are you<\/em>? Micah was a pretty common name in Biblical times: in the entire Tanach there are 12 people with this name. One of them – another prophet – was Micaiah son of Imlah. He was \u201ca true prophet\u201d from the days of Ahab who prophesied regarding the expected defeat in the war of Ramoth-gilead (see I Kings 22).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Destruction and cult<\/em>. Micah\u2019s prophecies don\u2019t spell out what is the guilt of Samaria and what are the sins of Judah, but we get a glimpse of the status of the cult in the kingdoms. Verse 7 tells at length about the destruction of the cult of Samaria – \u201cAll her sculptured images shall be smashed, And all her harlot\u2019s wealth be burned, And I will make a waste heap of all her idols\u201d – while verse 5 hints at the worship on the shrined (bamot<\/em>) <\/i>of Judah: \u201cwhat the shrines of Judah But Jerusalem?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
