Just like Jonah 1 has references to the book of Genesis<\/a>, Jonah 2 has multiple references to the book of Exodus.<\/span><\/p>\n

1) Jonah is swallowed up by the fish for “three days and three nights”. When Moses asks Pharaoh to let the Jews go to the desert to pray to God, he asks for them to go for three days (Exodus 5:3).<\/span><\/p>\n

2) In Jonah’s prayer to God he describes himself as being enveloped by the sea, just as the Egyptians are enveloped by the sea following the splitting of the sea in Exodus 14.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

3) God has the fish spit Jonah out onto the “dry land”- in Hebrew “yabasha<\/em>“. In Exodus 14:29, while the Egyptians are cast into the sea, the Israelites walk on dry land- also using the Hebrew word “yabasha<\/em>.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

4) Jonah references prayer at the Temple. The Mishkan- the first location for prayer and sacrifice, is built in the book of Exodus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
