  1. Reading between the lines<\/em>. Jonah\u2019s prayer definitely represents a step towards communicating with, and ending his flight from, God. But if you listen closely also to what was not said, you\u2019ll realize he doesn\u2019t apologize or express regret at refusing the mission, and also doesn\u2019t even say that now he will in fact do it.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. There\u2019s a question here<\/em>.What\u2019s the connection between the prayer and Jonah\u2019s actual situation? On the one hand, his \u201cpsalm\u201d speaks about affliction in terms analogous to a storm at sea, like his own experience. On the other, he seems to be speaking from the perspective of one who has already been delivered who is thankful – not as one who is still caught and is praying for salvation. Does the prayer fit the situation? Commentators and scholars have additional questions, and also a few solutions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Vows and sacrifices<\/em>. In the previous chapter, the sailors, who are now God-fearing, offered sacrifices and made vows. Jonah does the same in verse 10. Is this enough to solve the crisis?
