{"id":77556,"date":"2020-07-16T16:00:03","date_gmt":"2020-07-16T13:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/?p=77556"},"modified":"2020-07-16T16:00:03","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T13:00:03","slug":"a-redemptive-hunger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/en\/a-redemptive-hunger\/","title":{"rendered":"A Redemptive Hunger"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[281],"tags":[],"acf":{"old_id":"77556","type":"no","iframe":"","writer":57331,"related_cahpter":"526","type_929":"2","show_author_image":false,"old_create_date":"","old_url":"","post_main_content":{"description":"The same can\u2019t be said for plague or war\r\n\r\n","content":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the 4th chapter of Amos, the prophet speaks of the standard triumvirate of punishments- pestilence, famine, and war. 4:9 &#8220;I have smitten your crops with wind blasts and withering&#8230;&#8221; 4:10 &#8220;I have sent you pestilence on the way to Egypt,&#8221; and &#8220;I have killed your youths by the sword.&#8221; In Samuel II:24, God, through the prophet Gad, offers King David a choice between these three punishments. David chooses pestilence, as that comes from God, who shows mercy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now the nation will have to endure all three. Famine is the external mover of people: when famine hits, people must move to survive. Plague, on the other hand, traps people in quarantined houses and isolates them from others (as we know only all too well). Finally the sword brings forth a foreign enemy to mete justice on its own terms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But in chapter 8 of Amos, the prophet focuses on the first punishment- famine. 8:11 &#8220;behold the day is coming says God that I will send forth a famine in the land, but not a famine for bread, nor a thirst for water, but a hunger for the word of God.&#8221;\u00a0 Instead of traveling around searching for food elsewhere, the people will return to the land with a hunger for God. What was once a means of exile will now be a mode of redemption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(This post is in memory of Great Zayde Mendel Trachtman who had a hunger for
