  1. The Temple in Gilgal<\/em>. You probably remember the temple in Beit El. Verse 4 reminds us that also in Gilgal there was an active temple serving the kingdom of Israel. That was where Joshua had his camp, and it was also a center of activity during the times of the judges (Judges 2), and during the time of Samuel the prophet (1 Sam. 13, for instance).<\/span><\/li>\n

Dental hygiene?<\/em>\u00a0In the list of the punishments here, in verse 6, you\u2019ll find \u201c Cleanness of teeth in all your towns.\u201d Even though from the point of view of the dental hygienist that sounds like a good thing, if you read the rest of the verse, say, from the point of view of the dietician: \u201clack of food in all your settlements,\u201d then you know that the cleanness comes from lack of anything to chew on, and is indeed a curse of hunger.<\/span><\/li>\n

  4. Be prepared!<\/em> What is the meaning of the call: \u201cPrepare to meet your God, O Israel!\u201d towards the end of the chapter. Is it a threat regarding the coming catastrophe? A call to repentance, because it is still possible?
