In 3:4 &#8221; the sun will turn to darkness and the moon blood red&#8221; and in Joel 4:15 &#8220;the sun and the moon have become blackened and the stars have withdrawn their shine.\u201d The double usage of this metaphor may most likely indicate that around the time of Joel&#8217;s prophecy there was a blood moon and a solar eclipse and a lunar eclipse.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, there is another symbolic reason for using these metaphors. The sun and moon and stars appear in one of Joseph&#8217;s early dreams. in Genesis chapter 37: &#8220;I have dreamed another dream\u00a0 behold the sun, the moon and eleven stars bowed down to me.&#8221; The celestial bodies represent Jacob, Rachel and the sons of Jacob. Joel&#8217;s image therefore takes an even darker turn. Not only will the day and night grow dark, but the forefathers who have acted to protect the Israelites will no longer be illuminated to protect the
