The images of a regrowth of the northern tribes and a return to God provide a beautiful ending to what is at times a very tragic book.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Verse 9 takes a theme that we have seen before and creates a beautiful image. In the previous major prophetic books and in the book of Kings, there is usually a call to smash the idols, and remove them from the houses, burn them in the fields, etc.\u00a0 One could even imagine an anti-idol squad traveling through the land seizing molten images, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Ashera<\/em> <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">trees, and altars from the houses of the inhabitants. As we saw with King Josiah, oftentimes these idol seizures were not voluntary. The people were not turning away from idolatry willingly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hosea sees this reformation differently. In Hosea\u2019s final vision the people do not merely turn in their idols, or even reject idolatry.\u00a0 Instead, according to the prophet, the people decide \u201cWhat more have I to do with idols?\u201d (verse 9). The people will not simply remove the physical idols from their houses, but they will be able to remove the very desire to worship other gods from their hearts and
