  1. Ephraim, my little one<\/em>. God\u2019s relationship to the people in this chapter is as to a small child. The people, like a little child, enjoys boundless love, a protective embrace, dedicated care, and\u2026 forgiveness. For how can one get angry at a small child?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. A father\u2019s love for his son<\/em>. Not the love of a person for their spouse. This relationship model is different from the couples concept put forth in chapters 1-3. Compare: what does each model imply regarding the possibility of ending the relationship, regarding the element of choice, and of mutuality?<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Human and not beast<\/em>. In the previous chapter, Ephraim was a heifer that carried his yoke. In this chapter, he is a human being. But what about the yoke? The harness is one of love and not of subjugation, \u201cI drew them with human ties, With cords of love; But I seemed to them as one Who imposed a yoke on their jaws\u201d (verse 4).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. God and not human<\/em> (verse 9). But what does this mean:\u00a0 that God forgives more than humans? That God is better at keeping promises, does not have regrets or changes of heart – unlike humans?<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Timeout<\/em>. We hope you enjoyed a little respite with this chapter that focused on comfort.
