  1. Prophecies, wet and dry<\/em>. Both the people who asks, and the God who rejects their plea, use images from the world of precipitation. People: \u201cLet us pursue obedience to the LORD, And we shall become obedient. His appearance is as sure as daybreak, And He will come to us like rain, Like latter rain that refreshes the earth\u201d (verse 3). God: \u201cWhat can I do for you, Ephraim, What can I do for you, Judah, When your goodness is like morning clouds, Like dew so early gone?\u201d (verse 4). It\u2019s really too bad that the answer is not more positive, and the conclusion of the prophecy leaves the listeners, and us, out to dry.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The footprints of the suspects<\/em>. Hints at who the most severe transgressors in Israel are can be found in verses 7-9. Blame is laid in the region east of the Jordan, in the region of Gilead, where lies \u201cthe city of evil doers.\u201d And the \u201cgang of priest\u201d who murder \u201con the road to Shechem.\u201d Is that referring to cities of refuge that are not functioning because of the priests? Or is it perhaps the bloody rebellions that the Gileadites led in Samaria, as described in II Kings 15:25?<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Goodness, not sacrifice<\/em> (verse 6). If that sounds familiar, you\u2019re on to something. We\u2019ve heard it from Isaiah (for instance in chapter 1), and in Jeremiah (chapter 7). But just remember: Hosea said it first!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
