  1. Back in time.<\/em> We\u2019ve reached the prophecies of Hosea after three big books of prophecy, that presented the words of prophets who were active from the end of the 8th century BCE in the kingdom of Judah, via the destruction, the exile and until the return to Zion at the beginning of the 6th century BCE. Hosea prophesies before all those prophets, and their prophecies which we have already read. He\u2019s almost the first prophet whose words were collected and written down. Read him as such. If some prophetic idea sounds familiar, there\u2019s a chance that it was Hosea who said it first.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. It\u2019s totally a couples thing<\/em>. The prophecy of Hosea sees the connection between God and Israel as a romantic relationship, perhaps for the first time. What does this mean? Well, everything a couples relationship means, for good and for bad. Love and jealousy, distance and closeness, freedom and domination, loyalty and betrayal, courtship, revealing and concealing, pain and hope, and everything else that you also are familiar with.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Did it really happen or not?<\/em> Did Hosea really marry Gomer and establish a family with her? Or is it perhaps an allegory or a bit of performance art? That\u2019s the question – and it\u2019s not an easy one.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Children of whoredom<\/em> (v. 3). Why would the children of Hosea and Gomer be called that? Perhaps after their mother, perhaps to symbolize the moral of the betrayal, and perhaps, even as she was the wife of the prophet, Gomer continued to be a prostitute, and there is no certainty regarding the paternity. The prophecy in the next chapter will expand on this.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. The blood of Jezreel<\/em>. 183 chapters ago (2 Kings 9-10), during the rebellion of Jehu, there was a bloodbath in Jezreel, where the members of the large royal family (the house of Ahab) and all the servants of Baal were eliminated. That might have been a while ago, but it has not been forgiven, or forgotten: \u201cName him Jezreel; for, I will soon punish the House of Jehu for the bloody deeds at Jezreel and put an end to the monarchy of the House of Israel.\u201d (verse 4).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":53645,"id":53645,"title":"general-qs-points to
