Well, for Conservative and Orthodox Jews &#8211; it will be the second day of Shavuot (since the three pilgrimage holidays of Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot are each celebrated for an extra day in the Diaspora). They will therefore be reading the special readings for the holiday, and not parashat hashavua.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When will they read Naso? Next week &#8211; while the Israeli communities are already on Behaa&#8217;lotcha.<\/p>\n<p>So does that mean we will then be one off forever? Never to read the same portion again at the same time?<\/p>\n<p>No &#8211; this only continues until the next &#8220;double portion,&#8221; when two consecutive portions can be read on the same Shabbat (of which there are a number to allow for expansion on leap years&#8230;).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When will that be? On July 4th, 12th of Tammuz, the double portion of Chukat-Balak will be read in the Diaspora, while only Balak will be read in Israel (since they read Chukat the previous week). Then the next week, July 11th, the Jewish world will be reunited again with Pinchas.<\/p>\n<p>And so we will remain, until the next time this happens.
