  1. A vine with seniority<\/em>. The grapevine is a weak sort of wood that can bring forth grand fruit – and it is also familiar fodder for parables for the Israelites. Isaiah\u2019s parable of the vineyard (chapter 5 – only 128 chapters ago) presented the sour grapes that the vine produced as symbolizing the missed potential of the people to become great. Ezekiel\u2019s parable chooses to focus on the weakest part of the vine, not the fruit but the thin branches. This makes the despair all the greater: from the beginning, these \u201cbranches\u201d weren\u2019t of much value, and the situation only deteriorated.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The moral of the story<\/em>. The parable expresses just how serious the situation is. The concluding verses remind us how and why: \u201cI will set My face against them; they escaped from fire, but fire shall consume them. When I set my face against them, you shall know that I am the LORD. I will make the land a desolation, because they committed trespass\u2014declares the Lord GOD\u201d (verses 7-8).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
