  1. Work slowdown?<\/em> Did Ezekiel accept his mission? The scroll was eaten, but he sits silent in front of the target audience. Is there a protest there in his silence? If so, it is possible to read the prophecy of \u201cthe watchman\u201d (v. 17 ff.) as an answer to his silence: There is a purpose to your mission, there are those that can be saved. If you remain silent – it is upon your head.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. The image becomes reality<\/em>. We have already seen prophecy as food in Jeremiah chapter 15: \u201cWhen Your words were offered, I devoured them; Your word brought me delight and joy\u201d (v. 16). With Ezekiel, the metaphor becomes a reality. In his vision, Ezekiel physically eats the scroll upon which are written the words of the prophecy, and thus his mission becomes a physical part of him.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Sweet and bitter<\/em>. The content of the prophecy is hard and bitter. Why does Ezekiel taste it as \u201csweet as honey\u201d (3)? We learn from Jeremiah about the experience of prophecy, that the closeness to God in the prophetic experience is the sweetest spiritual summit, even when the content of the prophecy and the experience of communicating it are almost too difficult to bear.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. For how long?<\/em> A command to speak to an unhearing audience transforms into a violent silencing and imprisonment for Ezekiel. For how long? And what will be the turning point? The prophecy doesn\u2019t speak of a schedule. But when we will arrive at chapter 24, we will discover that the watershed moment between restraint and imposed silence and prophetic activity in the public realm will be the destruction of Jerusalem. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
