  1. Revenge<\/em>. The root \u05e0-\u05e7-\u05de, n-k-m, \u201crevenge\u201d appears 4 times in the previous chapter, and 5 in this one. The fall of the Babylonian empire has a strong emotional cast to it.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. A golden cup<\/em>. 16 chapters ago, in Jeremiah 25, we read a prophecy in which the nations were given to drink from \u201cthis cup of wine, of wrath.\u201d In verse 7 there is a cup that is reminiscent of that cup of poison, and it has a clear identity: \u201cBabylon was a golden cup in the LORD\u2019s hand, It made the whole earth drunk.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Prophecy and reality<\/em>. The prophecy in the chapter identifies the enemy who will bring about the downfall of Babylonia with the kings of Media (verses 11 and 28), a kingdom that until the year 550 BCE constituted Babylonia\u2019s biggest threat. But the one who conquered Babylonia was Cyrus the Persian. Researchers and commentators have suggested various ways to understand the connection between the prophecy and history.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Thus far the words of Jeremiah (verse 64)<\/em>. The prophecies have ended.
