The Ammonites took pride in their fertile valleys (first verset). Now, however, the valley \u201cflows\u201d or \u201coozes,\u201d <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">zav<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. While this verb is the one that is used in the recurrent phrase \u201ca land flowing with milk and honey,\u201d it is also used for suppurations of the body, and that is the more likely sense here, because what the context suggests is a contrast between the valley about which the Ammonites once boasted and its present woeful state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From: Robert Alter, <em>The Hebrew Bible<\/em>, vol. 2: Prophets, W.
