  1. The riddle of Jeremiah\u2019s dedication<\/em>. When Jeremiah was dedicated as a prophet 17 chapters ago, he received his mission: \u201cSee, I appoint you this day Over nations and kingdoms: To uproot and to pull down, To destroy and to overthrow, To build and to plant\u201d (1:10). How can the same mission both destroy and build? To overthrow and to plant? Verses 7-10 in our chapter explain to Jeremiah, that this is the essence of prophecy. The future in the hands of God, is like \u201cclay in the hands of the potter.\u201d The divine decision just who He will \u201cuproot and pull down, o destroy and overthrow\u201d and who to \u201cbuild and to plant\u201d is dependent on human behavior.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Is everything reversible<\/em>? And what happens when the clay dries and becomes solid? Can then too a new vessel be formed from one that was deformed? Can we always update the future? The answer is in the next chapter.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. The looking glass<\/em>. Sometimes it helps to know what other people think, in order to realize that there is a problem. That\u2019s what the prophecy of verses 13-17 tries to do. The other nations have a hard time believing that Israel is leaving their source of life and vitality, and betraying it. It simply does not make sense.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Jeremiah – the lone voice<\/em>. It can\u2019t possibly be the case that everyone is wrong and you are write, the people say to Jeremiah. \u201cFor instruction shall not fail from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor oracle from the prophet\u201d (verse 18). But it\u2019s easy to understand them, and their choice to listen to other legitimate sources of authority. That\u2019s the great tragedy: the lonely voice of a true prophet, who was silenced.\u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
