  1. Remorseless enemy.<\/em> They are busy with their plans for attacking Jerusalem from morning til night: \u201cPrepare for battle against her: \u2018Up! we will attack at noon.\u2019 \u2018Alas for us! for day is declining, The shadows of evening grow long.\u2019 \u2018Up! let us attack by night, And wreck her fortresses.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Babylonia, Assyria is right behind you<\/em>. The description of the Babylonian enemy which is approaching like an all-out war machine, is reminiscent of Isaiah\u2019s description of the Assyrian army. See for instance Isaiah 5, beginning with verse 25. And the military campaign that aroused fear in Judah we read about in Is. 10, from verse 28.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Sacrifices? No, thanks!<\/em> \u201cWhat need have I of frankincense That comes from Sheba, Or fragrant cane from a distant land? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable And your sacrifices are not pleasing to Me\u201d (verse 20). God is consistent, from Isaiah 1. The people are, too, and seem to invest a lot in sacrifices, not believing the prophetic message that that\u2019s not the point.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Optimistic? Things will turn out badly<\/em>. The rosy optimism of the priests and other prophets who promise the people \u201cPeace, peace\u201d – that all is well – is dangerous. Believing that message undermines all independent critical thought. The people even refuse to think for themselves, what\u00a0 is the best path: \u201c…Inquire about ancient paths: Which is the road to happiness? Travel it, and find tranquillity for yourselves. But they said, \u2018We will not\u2019\u201d (verse 16).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
