  1. Listen to the voices<\/em>. Listen to the sound of the shofar (3 times in this chapter), warning of the approaching enemy, and also the lion who appears, and the cries of anguish. Follow the voices (7 times), and note the different places where they are sounded, and you\u2019ll see that there is an invitation in the prophecy also to give voice.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Imagine the sights<\/em>. In verses 23-26, Jeremiah shares with us his ominous vision of the future: earth and heavens, mountains and valleys, people and winged creatures, and vegetation and settled areas. Painful images.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Not just a messenger<\/em>.\u00a0 Note the place of the prophet in the chapter. He reacts. Blames God. Feels the pain. Very involved in his prophecy. He has skin in the game. That\u2019s Jeremiah. He\u2019s not a mailman. He\u2019s part of the people, part of the message.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. What is more painful than giving birth? Giving birth for the first time<\/em>. Jerusalem\u2019s cries of pain will sound like a \u201cmavkira\u201d – \u201cAnguish as of a woman bearing her first child\u201d (verse
