Here at the top of a hill<\/span>
\n<\/span>our shoulders squared to the wind<\/span>
\n<\/span>as darkening clouds pile across the sky,<\/span>
\n<\/span>we\u2019ll say nothing about the impossible city<\/span>
\n<\/span>sprawled before us \u2013 city of heaven and earth,<\/span>
\n<\/span>city of your home, of comfort, of yearning \u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

just as I won’t try to convince you<\/span>
\n<\/span>that this city and the breath in our lungs<\/span>
\n<\/span>and the sunlight leaping into space<\/span>
\n<\/span>eight minutes before it warms our faces<\/span>
\n<\/span>and everything else between is connected<\/span>
\n<\/span>and in those connections is God.<\/span><\/p>\n

How can I say this to you<\/span>
\n<\/span>when I hardly find the words for myself?<\/span>
\n<\/span>Immanence is felt and fleeting<\/span>
\n<\/span>and the path of every person\u2019s search<\/span>
\n<\/span>winds through their own song.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let us start instead with wonder<\/span>
\n<\/span>before a word of prayer is chanted:<\/span>
\n<\/span>how the desert greens overnight<\/span>
\n<\/span>after the barest bit of rain,<\/span>
\n<\/span>how crows can tell when a storm breaks<\/span>
\n<\/span>but you’ll never know the exact moment<\/span>
\n<\/span>when first drops fall<\/span>
\n<\/span>only the closeness, the air’s silver taste.<\/span><\/p>\n
