First, there would be a demonstration of God’s strength: “The LORD will bare His holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and the very ends of earth shall see the victory of our God” (10). That victory would set the conditions for His people, Israel, to leave their places of exile: “Turn, turn away, touch naught unclean as you depart from there; keep pure, as you go forth from there, you who bear the vessels of the LORD!” (11). And, finally, there is the promise of His Providence: “For you will not depart in haste, nor will you leave in flight; for the LORD is marching before you, the God of Israel is your rear guard” (12).

Malbim* elaborated on the miraculous nature of the promised deliverance, pointing out that it would suffice to prove to all who witnessed it that “it was neither accidental nor natural, but divine salvation.” He further explained that God instructed the people to leave the lands of the idolaters, to which they had been exiled, for two reasons:

[A] Because that very earth was impure, hence “touch naught unclean as you depart from there,” i.e., do not touch anything impure because you need to preserve bodily purity. He illustrated it by comparing the promised deliverance to the historical precedent of the Exodus from Egypt.

The Exodus from Egypt was carried out in haste… because they were hastening towards the great benefits of the revelation of His presence in pillars of fire and cloud… The rest of their journey [ to Sinai] was in flight because the Egyptians were pursuing them.
