This understanding is supported by the fact that the word for \u201cwrath\u201d in \u201cin the cup of His wrath\u201d also means \u201cvenom.\u201d The Hebrew for \u201cchalice\u201d is two words, literally, \u201cthe cup of the chalice,\u201d and some think \u201ccup\u201d is a gloss on the rare word for chalice, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">quba\u2019at<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but joining two synonyms in a construct form is elsewhere a means to intensify or heighten the sense of the noun, and that may be the case here.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From: Robert Alter, <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hebrew Bible<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, vol. 2: Prophets, W.
