  1. Best regards from Mom and Dad<\/em>. We don\u2019t hear too often about Abraham in the words of the prophets. And from Sarah – even less. So appreciate verses 1-2!<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Right around the corner<\/em>. Just like in the prophecy from the previous chapter (50:8), here, in verse 5, the prophet adjures that \u201cThe triumph I grant is near, The success I give has gone forth.\u201d It\u2019s hard to wait patiently.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Rahab and Dragon<\/em>. The threatening creatures in verses 9-10 (including <\/span>yam<\/span><\/i> the sea, and <\/span>tehom<\/span><\/i>, the deep) are taken from the Mesopotamian creation myth. There, the water and its monsters fought the creator god and we conquered by him. Here, their defeat is a metaphor for God\u2019s power to vanquish evil, in the past and the future.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. I am the LORD<\/em>. \u201cI, I am He who comforts you!\u201d (verse 12). And if you don\u2019t remember who God is, or why God\u2019s promise is meant to comfort – read verses 12-15.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. \u201cThe cup of reeling \/ chalice of poison.\u201d<\/em> What happens when you drink poison? That\u2019s what happened to Zion, and her sons and daughters, \u201cYour sons lie in a swoon At the corner of every street\u2026\u201d or in other words, \u201cWrack and ruin…Famine and sword\u201d (verses 20, 19). What now? The effects of the poison have worn off, and like sleeping beauty, Zion is being awakened. That chalice of poison, by the way, has not completed its task. It will be served by God to the enemies, and the oppressors. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
