  1. You got what you deserved<\/em>. The prophecy is a sort of lament, but there is more mocking than sorrow; more \u201cyou really deserved that\u201d than \u201csorry for your loss.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Pride goeth<\/em>. The prideful and cocksure pronouncement of the Babylonians \u201c am, and there is none but me;\u201d is quoted twice in the prophecy (verses 8 and 10). And whoever was paying attention in previous chapters certainly remembers – from Isaiah ben Amotz and the Assyrians – that there is nothing as bad as the sin of pride.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. A seeing eye<\/em>. Another critical mistake of the Babylonians: \u201cYou were secure in your wickedness; You thought, \u201cNo one can see me\u201d (verse 10).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Despite her witchery<\/em>. Babylon was a world superpower in witchcraft, sorcerers and \u201cadvisors\u201d of all sorts. But despite the vast number of people dealing in predicting the future, no one was able to foresee the vast defeat they experienced suddenly (verse 9); and despite their advanced knowledge in the dark arts, no one prevented the catastrophe (12-13). <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
