  1. Fear not!<\/em> Twice the prophet tries to allay fears, with the call \u201cFear not!\u201d Just like he did three times two chapters ago (41), once three chapters ago (40), and just as he will do tomorrow (44). Apparently, there\u2019s a lot to fear.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Exclusive! Read all about it!<\/em> Verses 9-13 express the message that there is none other besides Him: \u201cNone but me, the LORD; Beside Me, none can grant triumph\u201d (11). If we read the chapter as a story of a relationship, it becomes clear why this statement is so crucial.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Forget the past<\/em>. Because sometimes focusing too much on what has always been the case, prevents new breakthroughs and moving forward: \u201cDo not recall what happened of old, Or ponder what happened of yore! I am about to do something new; Even now it shall come to pass, Suddenly you shall perceive it\u201d (verses 18-19).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Sacrificial cult can be wearisome<\/em>. Verbs based on the root \u05d9-\u05d2-\u05e2 (tired, weary) appear three times in verses 22-24. The people weary God with their (cultic) sins, even though God has no wearisome expectation from them in that department: \u201cBut you have not worshiped Me, O Jacob, That you should be weary of Me, O Israel\u2026I have not burdened you with meal offerings, Nor wearied you about frankincense\u2026Instead, you have burdened Me with your sins, You have wearied Me with your iniquities.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
