  1. Rabshakeh speaks fluent Isaian<\/em>. Now that we know what Isaiah has to say about Assyria, about Egypt and about a rebellion, it\u2019s clear that Rabshakeh\u2019s speech is actually quite similar. About Assyria: they are an instrument of God. About Egypt: they are not to be relied upon, don\u2019t be foolish. And about that rebellion? Don\u2019t put yourselves through needless suffering. Really.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Assyrian pride.<\/em> In his speech, Rabshakeh is full of pride, especially in what he says in verse 20, the narrative expression of the prophecy of the proud king of Assyria (which we read only 26 chapters ago in Isaiah 10), which tells of a king who lashes out in overweening pride at God, who is the one who sent him: \u201cDoes an ax boast over him who hews with it, Or a saw magnify itself above him who wields it? As though the rod raised him who lifts it, As though the staff lifted the man!\u201d (10:15). Will Assyria pay the price that the prophecy foretells? Stay tuned for the answer.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. 2 Kings redux<\/em>. The story told in this chapter appears also in 2 Kings 18, beginning with verse 13 (but with a small addition in verses 14-16).
