To celebrate his victory over those who would challenge God, God throws a banquet (25:6):\u201cThe Lord of Hosts will make on this mountain a banquet of rich viands for all the peoples, a banquet of choice wines: of rich viands seasoned with marrow, of choice wines well refined.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Banqueting for celebration has a long history in the land of Israel (and elsewhere). On a beautiful 14<\/span>th<\/span> century BCE ivory engraving from the Canaanite city of Megiddo, now on display at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, we see the king enthroned, sipping a cup of wine:<\/span><\/p>\n

Importantly, as the king sips his wine, and the musicians play the celebratory music, the bound prisoners are paraded in front of the throne. Thus banqueting and victory are intimately connected, as in Isaiah 25.<\/span><\/p>\n
