The picture of destruction that is painted in these chapters is merciless. The cities have fallen, the soldiers are despondent, the fugitives flea in tears and desperation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is striking is the tone. There is no gloating here, no joy over the fall of a rival. Instead, the prophet cries with the Moabites: \u201cMy heart cries out for Moab: His fugitives flee down to Zoar, to Eglath-shelishiyah. They walk up the ascent of Luhith weeping; they cry in anguish as they walk on the road to Horonaim.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pathos of this original Moabite Trail of Tears evokes nothing but pain and sympathy in Isaiah.
