  1. War stories<\/em>. The day of Midian. The great salvation from Assyria will be like the Day of Midian, that is, like the great day of victory over Midian, the one that happened 126 chapters ago (Judges 6-8), during the time of Gideon. By the way, this isn\u2019t the last time that that great victory will be mentioned. We\u2019ll hear about it again, in the next chapter, and in another 307 chapters in Psalm 83.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. A good name<\/em>. The symbolic name of the son contains all the necessary ingredients for success: good counsel and wisdom, bravery, stability, peace and security: <\/span>Pele-yoetz-el-gibor-avi-ad-sar-shalom, <\/span><\/i>\u201cThe Mighty God is planning grace; The Eternal Father, a peaceable ruler.\u201d There are those, like Rashi, who understand the first part (\u201cThe Mighty God is planning grace; The Eternal Father\u201d) as an epithet for God, who will then give the name to the child, <\/span>sar shalom<\/span><\/i>, \u201cpeacable ruler\u201d (or prince of peace). Just between you and me, to be a king of peace is no small thing either in this world.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Painful reality<\/em>. The civil war in the kingdom of Israel, which is criticized in verses 18-20, is described in 2 Kings chapters 15-17. Internal rebellions, cruel regime changes, and battles between the tribes east of the Jordan (Menasseh) and those west of it (Efraim).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Pride<\/em>. In Isaiah\u2019s opinion, pride is the root of all evil. That is what creates dangerous obliviousness to others. We saw this problem in Judah in the prophecies of chapters 2 and 3. We\u2019ll see<\/span>\u00a0the same problem tomorrow, chapter 10, regarding Assyria.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
