{"id":64784,"date":"2019-10-26T10:45:36","date_gmt":"2019-10-26T07:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/?p=64784"},"modified":"2023-05-21T15:24:45","modified_gmt":"2023-05-21T12:24:45","slug":"making-warfare-obsolete","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.929.org.il\/en\/making-warfare-obsolete\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Warfare Obsolete"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"entry-content\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[281],"tags":[409,434],"acf":{"old_id":"64784","type":"no","iframe":"","writer":62571,"related_cahpter":"336","type_929":"2","show_author_image":false,"old_create_date":"","old_url":"","post_main_content":{"description":"But isn\u2019t there \u201ca time for peace - and a time for war?\u201d","content":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isaiah 2 is unevenly divided between verses forecasting a glorious future time of peace, tranquility, and universal Torah-learning (v. 1-4,) on the one hand, and statements describing an inglorious present, in which idolatry, materialism, and human arrogance will be threatened with obliteration by God\u2019s wrath (v. 5-22,) on the other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Among the opening verses of the chapter, is found one of the most iconic and well-known texts in all of the Bible: <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thus He will judge among the nations and arbitrate for the many peoples. And they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation shall not take up sword against nation; they shall never again know war.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar terminology appears in Mica 4:3, but the verse is typically associated with its Isaiah source.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The popular appeal of Isaiah 2:4 is reflected in its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=c9MfrovtTtw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">having been put to music<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as being literally \u201cwritten in stone,\u201d on a portion of the United Nations building in New York, NY, known as \u201cThe Isaiah Wall\u201d (see cover image).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The verse asserts that warfare between nations, whereby so many soldiers and civilians worldwide have been regularly killed or injured, as well as homes, institutions, cities and the countryside destroyed, will eventually become obsolete. Stockpiles of weapons, which in the past were associated at best with \u201cmutual deterrence,\u201d will be repurposed for peaceful ends. Consequently, not only will wars no longer be waged, but also the weaponry by which wars have been fought, will simply cease to exist, beyond perhaps a museum that wishes to provide its visitors with a glimpse of humanity\u2019s bloodthirsty and barbaric past.
