  1. House of prayer<\/em>. That is the function of the Temple in this chapter. When Hezekiah hears the words of Ravshakeh, and when he receives the written message of Sennecharib, he goes up to the House of God, and prays.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. \u201cThe babes have reached the birthstool, but the strength to give birth is lacking\u201d<\/em> (verse 3).\u00a0 Hezekiah compares the crisis to a woman about to give birth, who loses her strength at the time of birth. The image expresses his distress, pain and feelings of powerlessness. But what else? Does Hezekiah feel that a momentous opportunity is coming?<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Assyrian boasting<\/em>. In verses 23-24, in a prophetic formulation, the King of Assyria touches the roof of the world from the north – \u201cIt is I who have climbed the highest mountains, To the remotest parts of the Lebanon, And have cut down its loftiest cedars\u201d – with his feet in the south, draining the Nile: \u201cI have dried up with the soles of my feet all the streams of Egypt.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Davidic immunity<\/em>. For Jerusalem. This is how it sounds in the words of Isaiah: \u201cI will protect and save this city for My sake, And for the sake of My servant David\u201d (verse 34).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Echoes of Isaiah<\/em>. Many messages and turns of phrase in this chapter speak the language of the Book of Isaiah.
