  1. Skepticism?\u00a0<\/em> Don\u2019t go there. The story of the salvation from hunger and siege\u00a0 is completely wrapped up in a clear message regarding skepticism, or unbelief. The heavy price that the king\u2019s aide pays for his lack of trust, and for his sarcastic answer to Elisha\u2019s prophecy are a clear warning sign: cynicism and skepticism are dangerous.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. One hand caresses, while the other slaps<\/em>. Elisha has an impressive record for deeds of lovingkindness. But the story of the aide and his fate reminds us that he has another side, less compassionate, such as the one he demonstrated in the story of the boys in chapter 2, who were attacked by bears after they insulted the prophet, and the king\u2019s messenger of the last chapter, who was almost crushed in the door, when he came to take Elisha.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Nothing to lose<\/em>. This is the reasoning of the lepers when they go over to the enemy camp. This is also the logic of sending a delegation to validate the report of the lepers. For in any event, the fate of the horses and their riders in Samaria, would be death: \u201cthey are like those that are left here of the whole multitude of Israel that have perished\u201d (13).<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Lepers<\/em>. Why did the lepers merit the privilege of being the ones to bear the tidings of salvation? If for instance the story had waited until the morning, then the guards atop the walls would also have seen what had occurred in the camp of Aram. Is there a connection to the story of the leprosy of Naaman, from two chapters ago? Or is this a statement about peripheral people and their relationship to the larger society. Worth looking into.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
