  1. The daily grind<\/em>. By the by, the chapters offers us a look at the daily life in Israel, in the 9th century BCE. What happens when someone has trouble repaying their debt? What does a guest room look like? Why is it important to have connections to the authorities? When does one go to a prophet, and what does one bring? How and what did they cook, and more…<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Gehazi – nice to meet you<\/em>. While Gehazi, Elisha\u2019s servant boy, is a secondary character in the chapter, he does have a personality. He is more intimately involved in what happens in the house of the Shunamite woman more than Elisha is. For instance, he knows that she is childless. On the other hand, he behaves very insensitively to her when she comes in her distress to the man of God (verse 27).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. \u201cI live among my own people.\u201d<\/em> This is the answer of the Shunamite woman to Elisha\u2019s offer to help with his connections to the king, or the head of the army. I\u2019m alright, she answers politely (verse 13).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Disciples of the prophets, and other friends<\/em>. Elisha performs his miracles for people who are close to him, and to his way of life: the widow of the God-fearing disciple of the prophets, the hostess from Shunam, and the group of disciples, Elisha\u2019s students.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Man of God<\/em>. Elisha is called \u201cman of God\u201d nine times in this chapter. But it is instructive to note when God is involved in Elisha\u2019s actions, and when not, when the Name is mentioned by Elisha, when and for what Elisha actually prays.
