“\u2026 and it came to pass, when the musician played, the hand of the Lord touched him” (2 Kings 3:15).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I lost an orchestra.<\/span><\/p>\n

I lost the silver trumpet my grandfather gave me for my Bar-Mitzvah,<\/span>
\n<\/span>The trumpet on which I practiced every night.<\/span><\/p>\n

I lost Rashi’s violin,<\/span>
\n<\/span>The Rambam’s flute,<\/span>
\n<\/span>The clarinet the Baal-Shem-Tov used to play.<\/span><\/p>\n

I lost the music-stand<\/span>
\n<\/span>Bezalel built from acacia wood.<\/span><\/p>\n

I lost notes, clefs, staffs, bars, keys, scales.<\/span>
\n<\/span>I lost pitch and tone.<\/span><\/p>\n

All that remains is a melody<\/span>
\n<\/span>That burst forth, at times, from my memory,<\/span>
\n<\/span>A melody from the orchestra I once knew.<\/span><\/p>\n

And when the melody plays in my mind,<\/span>
\n<\/span>I get down on my knees, bow down<\/span>
\n<\/span>And prostrate myself on the ground,<\/span><\/p>\n

Like a pilgrim in the Temple<\/span>
\n<\/span>When the High Priest pronounced<\/span>
\n<\/span>The unpronounceable name of God.<\/span><\/p>\n
