Our chapter is also a very important window onto the political methods that King Solomon chose to use in order to govern his wealthy kingdom peacefully and successfully.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">King Solomon preferred a small government. His abundant country did very well with eleven ministers only.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ministers came from the families that were most loyal to the King. One of them was Prophet Nathan&#8217;s family. Prophet Nathan supported Bathsheba&#8217;s efforts to give the crown to her son Prince Solomon and not to Prince Adonijah, son of Haggith. In return, Nathan&#8217;s two sons were appointed ministers in King Solomon&#8217; government. Zabud son of Nathan was companion of King Solomon (&#8220;the hand of the king&#8221;) and Azariah son of Nathan was in charge of the prefects. The loyal servants of King David \u2013 Commander Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Recorder Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud and Priests Zadok and Abiathar \u2013 were appointed ministers in King Solomon&#8217;s government as well. Also appointed was minister Priest Azariah son of Minister Zadok. Two prefects were Baana (brother of Minister Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud) and Baana (son of Hushi companion of King David). Two other prefects were the husbands of two of Solomon&#8217;s daughters. So it all remains in the family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A prefect of Judah \u2013 King Solomon&#8217;s tribe \u2013 is not mentioned. It seems that the royal family&#8217;s tribe had extra rights, was free of taxes and had no need for local governor to collect taxes that it did not pay. By mentioning that each one of the twelve prefects (without Judah) paid taxes one month every year, our chapter tells us that the tribe of Judah indeed have extra rights, and emphasizes King Solomon&#8217;s method of governing: Loyalty and family above
