  2. When heavenly plans and earthly politics meet<\/em>. Dismissing Abiathar from the priesthood is both a political distancing of a priest with dubious loyalties, and also the fulfillment of an old prophecy: \u201cthus fulfilling what the LORD had spoken at Shiloh regarding the house of Eli\u201d (verse 27).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Joab: War and Peace<\/em>. This is how David defines Joab\u2019s problem: \u201cshedding blood of war in peacetime,\u201d which fits the description of how Joab killed Abner and Amasa. Executing Joab is defined here as punishment. But it\u2019s not just about closing past accounts; it\u2019s also \u201cclearing the decks\u201d for a new beginning for Solomon.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Shimei<\/em>. His story concludes here, and we can ask: Was he a lone wolf, who paid the price for his mistake? Or did he have political clout in Benjamin, and therefore important to insure that he can\u2019t organize?
