The bulla contains the first mention of Bethelehem in the archaeological record. The toponym, which is King David\u2019s ancestral town (1 Kings 16), is visible in the middle register of the bulla. The seal was likely used to identify shipments of taxable goods, such as grain and wine, to the capital of Judah in Jerusalem.
