Later (chapter 9), we will learn that David had Mephibosheth brought to him by Ziba, a servant of the House of Saul. When Mephibosheth came to David, he prostrated himself, and David said to him, “‘Don’t be afraid, for I will keep faith with you for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will give you back all the land of your grandfather Saul; moreover, you shall always eat at my table.’ [Mephibosheth] prostrated himself again, and said, ‘What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog like me?’” (verses 6-8). And the brief biblical account of Mephibosheth concludes that he “lived in Jerusalem, for he ate regularly at the king’s table. He was lame in both feet” (verse 13; see 21:7,compare verse 8).

The Talmudic Sages (Berakhot 4a) regard Mephibosheth as the teacher of David, with whom he regularly consulted when making halakhic decisions. And I am not ashamed (boshti) [to ask]”. According to the Midrash on this verse (Midrash Shmuel 28:5, see also Talmud Bavli Yevamot 79a, Talmud Yerushalmi Kiddushin 65b), because Mephibosheth was a Torah scholar, David prayed before the Holy Ark and Mephibosheth, the physically handicapped Sage, was saved.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mephibosheth#/media/File:Mephibosheth_kneels_before_David.gif

"1536x1536":"https://wp.929.org.il/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/2sam4-handicapped.png","1536x1536-width":1180,"1536x1536-height":1280,"2048x2048":"https://wp.929.org.il/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/2sam4-handicapped.png","2048x2048-width":1180,"2048x2048-height":1280
Physically handicapped -
