  1. Free choice?<\/em> Saul knows he\u2019s about to die. Inside the parameters of his destiny – he chooses. He chooses to go out to battle, and he chooses to die by his own hand, and not be killed by a Philistine.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Bodies and Feelings.<\/em> The story shows just how deep the connection is between the two. How humiliating is the desecration of a dead body. And how much the burial in an Israelite grave is comforting. The closing of a circle, or paying back goodness with goodness. Saul\u2019s first act as king, 20 chapters ago in chapter 11 was to save the people of Jabesh-Gilead from the hands of Nachash the Ammonite. Saul came to their aid when no one else would. The people of Jabesh-Gilead pay him back with the ultimate act of lovingkindness, and do the deed that no one else had the courage to do.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Between Saul and David.<\/em> This chapter is the continuation of the story told in chapter 28. But in the meantime the camera had turned towards David, and given us a glimpse of his successes – in the battle against Amalek, his internal leadership, and in his connection to God – as contrasted with Saul\u2019s failures.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. A sad end to I Samuel.<\/em> But the story continues tomorrow with 2 Samuel. There is hope for the monarchy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
