  1. Third time\u2019s a charm<\/span><\/em>. This is the third time that the ditty “Saul has slain his thousands; David, his tens of thousands” has appeared, and this time, it\u2019s the Philistines who are singing his praises. Eight chapters ago, the Philistine memory almost cost David his life (see ch. 21). This time, the Philistine musical memory saves David from joining the Philistine army in their war against Israel.<\/span><\/li>\n
