  1. Apologies for going AWOL<\/span><\/i>. Desertion, and to Israel\u2019s sworn enemy yet, is not an easy thing. We can see in this chapter a certain hint at apologetics. For instance, in the way the story is told about how David misleads the Philistines, or in the fact that \u201cAt that time Achish granted him Ziklag; that is how Ziklag came to belong to the kings of Judah, as is still the case\u201d (verse 6).   2. Yes, it\u2019s the same Achish<\/span><\/i>. Gath, with it\u2019s king Achish, was the destination of David\u2019s first flight from Saul, six chapters ago. Then his identity was discovered, and he had to feign madness in order to escape. This time, David returns to Gath, his identity clear to all, but his true intentions hidden.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Family guy<\/i>. David moves to the side of the Philistines with his troops and his family, which at this point consisted of two wives. It\u2019s worth noting their origins and their locations on the geo-political map of Judah and Israel: \u201cAhinoam the Jezreelite and Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite\u201d (verse
