I used to pull my purple mantle around my shoulders<\/span>
\n<\/span>as I reclined, listening to the harp,<\/span>
\n<\/span>its softness and the music would soothe my frayed nerves.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, I straighten my velvet mantle<\/span>
\n<\/span>as I search the hills and hollows for my foe<\/span>
\n<\/span>but in the mouth of a cave, a corner is torn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I fold the tattered mantle across my arms,<\/span>
\n<\/span>a segment lost; frustrated, I return<\/span>
\n<\/span> \u2014 no foe, only foxes!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The prophet comes, grave-faced;<\/span>
\n<\/span>just as my mantle was ripped, he warns,<\/span>
\n<\/span>so will my kingdom be rent from me.<\/span><\/p>\n

My stomach tightens to knots<\/span>
\n<\/span>like a wrangled robe<\/span>
\n<\/span>like my wrung mantle.<\/p>\n
