    1. Ingrates, or justifiably scared? <\/span><\/i>The men of Keilah were saved from the Philistines by David, but are willing to hand him over. How do we understand this act? Let\u2019s not forget the massacre at Nob, from the previous chapter.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Not just a priest.<\/span><\/i> Also the ephod. Abiathar who joins the fleeing David brought with him the oracular ephod, with which they divine God\u2019s will. This turns out to be pretty useful.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. The searchers<\/span>. <\/span><\/i>\u201cSo David and his men, about six hundred in number, left Keilah at once and moved about wherever they could\u201d (verse 13). It\u2019s no easy feat to find a hiding place for 600 men.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. The covenant, and the codicil<\/span><\/i>. This isn\u2019t the first time that David and Jonathan make a pact. But this time, the actionable parts are spelled out: When David becomes king, Jonathan will be his right hand man (verse 17).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. Hand to hand<\/i>. The word \u201chand\u201d (yad<\/i>) appears ten times in this chapter. Who is strengthening who\u2019s hands? Who gives over whom to another\u2019s hand? Who is saved from who\u2019s hands?
