We have been told nothing about Hannah\u2019s feelings as a mother after her separation from the child for who she so fervently prayed. This minimal notation of Hannah\u2019s annual \u00a0gesture of making a little cloak for the son she has \u201clent\u201d to the Lord beautifully intimates the love she preserves for him. The garment, fashioned as a gift of maternal love, stands in contrast to the ephod, the acolyte\u2019s official garb for his cultic office. Moreover, the robe (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">me\u2019il)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will continue to figure importantly in Samuel\u2019s life, and even in his afterlife, as we shall have occasion to see.
