  1. Sorta regretful<\/span><\/i>. The Israelites express regret, and even weep, but note that in the text there isn\u2019t a smidgen of responsibility-taking for what has happened: \u201cWhy has this happened in Israel, that one tribe must now be missing from Israel?\u201d (verse 3); \u201cThis day one tribe has been cut off from Israel!\u201d (verse 6); \u201cWhat can we do about wives for those who are left, since the women of Benjamin have been killed off?\u201d (16).<\/span>
    \n<\/span>Everything is in 3rd person, passive. In other words: how could this situation possibly have come about? What has it got to do with us?<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Festival in the vineyards<\/span><\/i>. Almost as an aside, we read about a lovely dance festival in the vineyards of Shiloh, that is reminiscent of what we know from 2nd Temple times as Tu Be\u2019Av, which in modern Israel has become a sort of Valentine\u2019s day.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Creative solutions – seriously!?<\/span><\/i>. To solve the problem of the need of the remnant of Benjamin to wed, the rest of Israel offers two different – and twisted – solutions. Did someone say – \u201ceveryone did as they pleased\u201d?<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. King!<\/i> If you\u2019ve come to the conclusion that all this has happened because \u201cIn those days there was no king in Israel\u201d (and even if you haven\u2019t) – then you are ripe for the Book of Samuel<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","image":{"ID":86314,"id":86314,"title":"Points to
