The necessary inference is that in the dialect of Hebrew spoken by the Ephraimites, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sh<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was pronounced as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The Hebrew word can mean either stream or stalk of grain, but, given the proximity to the Jordan, the former sense is more likely.
